INTASC Standard 5: Application of Content
The artifact I chose is a lesson plan created using the CMN simple lesson plan format. This lesson plan was created for the art section of the methods for teaching art and music course at the College of Menominee Nation. The requirement for this assignment was to develop a lesson plan emphasizing two or more of the elements of art and the principles of design and design process.
INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment
This artifact addresses INTASC standard 5: Application of Content- “The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.”
This artifact aligns with this standard because the lesson prepared connects the elements of art with the principles of design and design process. Different perspectives are used to engage young learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to local issues.
This artifact addresses INTASC standard 5(r): Application of Content- “The teacher values knowledge outside his/her own content area and how such knowledge enhances student learning.”
This artifact aligns with this standard because although I am not very knowledgeable in the elements of art or the principles of design and design process, I created an easy fun way to enhance student learning. Learning about the elements of art gave me strategies to use for meeting the needs of all learning styles.
This simple lesson plan is a hands-on way to explore art.
What I gained most from this experience is an effective way to select and adapt appropriate instructional methods. I have been made aware of activities that express individual creativity. I gained a variety of classroom materials and media options to incorporate. The tools gained through this experience will impact my community by efficiently presenting information.
