The Learner and Learning

 INTASC Standard 3: Learning Environments

The artifact I chose is a lesson plan created using the Danielson lesson plan template. This lesson plan was created for the physical education section of the methods for teaching health and physical education course at the College of Menominee Nation. The requirement for this assignment was to develop a lesson plan integrating physical education into a regular education classroom setting.

INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment

This artifact addresses INTASC standard 3: Learning Environments- “The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.”

This artifact aligns with this standard because the lesson prepared integrates physical education, reading and mathematics. This lesson plan requires support from individual and collaborative learning to create a safe, healthy, and fun learning environment. Active engagement with a partner is the grouping strategy for this lesson plan.

This lesson plan is a fun and easy way to teach a regular kindergarten classroom shapes, letters, numbers, and colors while executing a simple physical exercise.

What I gained most from this experience is a different outlook on integrating physical activity into core subject areas. I have been given many new resources to actively engage and collaborate with other health professionals to create fun, engaging environments for all types of learners. The tools gained through this experience will impact my community by sharing these resources and techniques with my friends and colleagues. I now believe that together we can figure out a way to promote healthy activities for all body types and lifestyles.
