INTASC Standard 6: Assessment
The artifact I chose is a lesson plan created using the Danielson lesson plan template. This lesson plan was created for the methods for science course at the College of Menominee Nation. The requirement for this assignment was to develop a culturally relevant hands on lesson plan.
INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment
This artifact addresses INTASC standard 6(g): Assessment- "The teacher effectively uses multiple and appropriate types of assessment data to identify each student’s learning needs and to develop differentiated learning experiences."
This artifact aligns with this standard because the assessment developed for this lesson plan uses personal information gained from each students learning experience. Students are given the tools to identify the body parts of a deer in Menominee language.
This artifact also addresses standard 6(q): Assessment- "The teacher is committed to engaging learners actively in assessment processes and to developing each learner’s capacity to review and communicate about their own progress and learning."
This artifact aligns with this standard because learners are asked to make a labeled display and tell a short story of a deer, name a body part or sate a true fun fact. By giving options all learners can be actively engaged and willing to communicate about their own progress and learning experiences understanding culturally relevant biology activity.
This lesson plan is a unique and culturally appropriate way to teach a first grade classroom the body part of a deer while delivering or displaying knowledge gained in the learners way perceived.
What I gained most from this experience is learning to use knowledge gained by the learner during the lesson for the appropriate types of assessment. I have been given new assessment tools to be used when considering the needs of language learners. The tools gained through this experience will impact my community by continuing to pass along the shared information with my colleagues.
