INTASC Standard 4: Content Knowledge
The artifact I chose is the classroom library I created in the cultural images in children's literature course at the College of Menominee Nation. The library consists of an annotated bibliography of twenty multicultural books from various genres.
INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment
This artifact addresses INTASC standard 4(f): Content Knowledge- "The teacher evaluates and modifies instructional resources and curriculum materials for their comprehensiveness, accuracy for representing particular concepts in the discipline, and appropriateness for his/her learners."
This artifact aligns with this standard because I carefully evaluated and modified instructional materials I thought appropriate for my students. The reading level of the books range from 1.5 to 5.6. The analytic tools gained when choosing children's literature will be very useful when creating the intended culture I would like my future classroom to be.
I believe the twenty chosen multicultural books are highly appropriate for my future students. I look forward to exploring and examining children's literature in a new light.
I learned there is much to consider when choosing classroom materials and resources. I can now expand my classroom library using the resources gained in this course. I have learned new children's literature research resources, how to create a multicultural classroom library and much more. What I have learned through this experience will impact my community by providing and modeling a well thought out classroom library.
