INTASC Standard 10: Leadership and Collaboration

The artifact I chose is a video, Kāēyas Mesek Oskēken (It's Old and it's New). This short YouTube video was produced by the Sustainability Leadership Cohort (SLC). SLC is an internship opportunity for high school students. The College of Menominee Nation's Sustainability Development Institute (SDI) project states "Preparing Native Youth for the future through SLC". The screenplay for this video was written by Justin Gauthier and SLC. It was Directed and Produced by Reynaldo Morales. Executive Producer is Hedi Baxter Laufer. The Production Coordinator is Cherie Thunder. This video was made possible through a P.O.S.O.H. Educational Media Project. A University of Wisconsin-Madison and CMN - SDI collaboration.

INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment

This artifact addresses INTASC standard 10 (i) The teacher seeks appropriate opportunities to model effective practice for colleagues, to lead professional learning activities, and to serve in other leadership roles."

This artifact aligns with this standard because when shooting this video I modeled effective practice for my colleagues by sharing the unique ideas about a hydrogenic energy storing unit I research as a sustainability education planner intern. I lead professional learning activities as the sustainability leadership cohort mentor in the writers room, in front of the camera and in the editing room. I served in other leadership roles when getting the permissions to access the desired areas to film.

This artifact also addresses INTASC standard 10 (q) The teacher respects families’ beliefs, norms, and expectations and seeks to work collaboratively with learners and families in setting and meeting challenging goals.

This artifact aligns with this standard because there was much to consider when talking with high school students about such controversial issues. Collaboratively SLC, CMN SDI, UWM and I met some very challenging goals.

The video presented is thirty five minutes in length. It is about a front twenty mine being proposed on the Menominee River. SLC captured all of the ideas we came up with in the writers room very well. This video incorporates our Menominee origin story and generational thinking. I am proud of everyone involved in this unique opportunity.

I learned the importance of being a good role model for an older group of students. We created a video with an Indigenous view. I learned from my colleagues and other talented individuals who all brought their own knowledge to the writers room. I learned with SLC how to write a script, shoot a video, and edit using advanced technology. I enjoyed this creative experience, although there were times when we were not sure how we would get it done, I am very pleased with the outcome and experience gained. What I have learned through this experience will impact my community by continuing to collaborate for students of all ages with adults passionate about the same things.
