INTASC Standard 7: Planning for Instruction

The artifact I chose is a lesson plan created for the health education section of the methods for teaching health and physical education course at the College of Menominee Nation. The requirement for this assignment was to develop a bulletin board lesson plan introducing a health education topic of our choice into a regular education classroom setting. A wellness wheel resource is my idea for a bulletin board.

INTASC Teacher Standard Alignment

This artifact addresses INTASC standard 7 (j): Essential Knowledge- “The teacher understands the strengths and needs of individual learners and how to plan instruction that is responsive to these strengths and needs.”

This artifact aligns with this standard because the lesson prepared allows teacher and student collaboration to create awareness and solutions to many of the needs for individual learners.

This artifact also addresses INTASC standard 7 (k): Essential Knowledge- "The teacher knows a range of evidence-based instructional strategies, resources, and technological tools and how to use them effectively to plan instruction that meets diverse learning needs."

This artifact aligns with this standard because the lesson prepared utilizes a range of evidence-based instructional strategies and resources. This board effectively plans instruction that meets the diverse learning needs for all learners in the community.

This health bulletin board uses a solution oriented approach. The goal is to collaboratively create solutions that promote healing for all.

What I gained most from this experience is the ability to reflect on the needs I observe from the youth around me. When creating the idea for this wellness board I thought about my own strengths and needs growing up. I think it is important for the wellbeing of children of all ages to have unlimited access to resources among the school and community. My health bulletin board is a basic outline to be completed with the class or classrooms from many ages. For each section of the wheel I would include a description of the type of wellness and resources, person of contact, or activities available. This lesson plan helped me understand ways to promote healing for our overall wellness. The tools gained through this experience will impact my community by creating and sharing this idea for solutions using community resources and collaboration.
